Visits to the fertility centre
All first time patients require a nurse orientation before commencing treatment. You will then come down for egg collection and embryo transfer. As a guide, egg collection usually takes place 14 days from the start of your period and embryo transfer will follow 5 days later. The dates will be adjusted in accordance to your response to treatment.
Managing potential complications
Complications from IVF is rare. If you develop symptoms or signs of mild ovarian hyper-stimulation syndrome (OHSS), it will be prudent to freeze the embryos and arrange for the embryo transfer in 1-2 months’ time. This will prevent serious OHSS and has the benefits of planning a frozen embryo transfer in a more physiological (natural) environment of your menstrual cycle, which improves implantation.
