Patients undergoing treatment with Westmead Fertility Centre (WFC)

Pre IVF requirements

1) New patient registration

  • Once you have submitted all necessary forms to us, your registration with Westmead Fertility Centre (WFC) is automatic. Please allow two business days for WFC to complete your registration.
  • WFC will send you an email to confirm your details. Please acknowledge the email by replying promptly to gain access to WFC’s patient portal. You will be required to book your treatment through the patient’s portal on the first day of your period.

2) Orientation of new patients

  • First time patients undergoing IVF treatment will go through an orientation with a friendly fertility nurse before starting treatment. The nurse will co-ordinate your treatment and answer your queries on that day.
  • You will receive a full explanation of the fees from a member of the administration team.
  • Your couple number (unique only to you) will be given to you on the day.

Checklist

Have you registered for the Safety Net for Families?

All IVF patients with a Medicare card should register as a FAMILY with the Safety Net to receive added benefits when you reach the safety net threshold. Learn more about Medicare Safety Net for families.

Should you take a break in between fresh cycles?

If you are considering another fresh cycle or a frozen embryo transfer, WFC recommends one month break following your recent fresh cycle to allow your body and hormones to return to normal. This month is a great opportunity to regroup, undergo counselling, further investigations and to catch up with Dr Fong. Thereafter, you are encouraged to contact WFC through their patient portal.

A month break is not required following a frozen embryo cycle.

New cycle

If you’ve taken a break from fertility treatment, it’s important to check the following before contacting WFC to book for a new treatment:
  • During your last consultation with Dr Fong, a treatment plan would have been prescribed based on your health, investigations and conditions. The treatment plan expires six months from the date of prescription. If your situation has changed, a new treatment plan is required.
  • A consultation with Dr Fong is required for every FRESH cycle to prescribe a new treatment plan.
  • Ensure that the following remains valid (ie less than 12 months) until the completion of the new treatment:
  1. Consent forms
  2. GP referral
  3. Infection screen for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV (and rubella for females)

Staying in touch with Dr Fong

If your last consultation with Dr Fong has been more than six months, it’s likely that your treatment plan, investigations and forms may be out of date. Please contact us if you are considering new treatment.

As IVF is a field that is dynamic and constantly evolving, we encourage you to stay in touch with us so that we can offer you the latest treatment options available.
