|
for The EMSN was introduced to assist families left with large out-of-pocket medical bills after Medicare rebate. Under EMSN, families are entitled to receive additional rebates when they exceed the EMSN threshold.
Unless there is a cap on an item number, once you’ve exceeded the threshold, Medicare will pay 80% of any out-of-pocket costs for the remainder of the calendar year. This includes Dr Fong’s consultation fees and services that have medicare item numbers such as pathology, imaging and fertility treatment. The threshold is determined by the Federal Government and is reset on 1st January each year. For further information on EMSN click here. Q. Who should register? All patients embarking on assisted reproductive treatment such as IVF. Q. What should I do? You should register for Medicare Safety Net For Families. It's important to do so even if you are on the same Medicare card. When you’re registered as a family, your medical costs are combined. Not only do you reach the threshold sooner but extra rebate is automatically deposited to you each time you make a medicare claim.
